The failure rate on E46, M54 and M56 ignition coils (resulting in a misfire) is a common problem. If "Service Engine Soon" light comes on and the code reader points to a "Missfire on Cylinder" a new ignition coil and a set of spark plugs would be a great way to resolve your issues.
